PiYo Strong

I’m finding out a little bit about myself more and more each day. Some of the best days are the days when I get some PiYo in. If you’ve never heard of it, PiYo is a pilates and yoga fused workout, featuring one of my favorite fitness people, Chalene Johnson. It’s about defining yourself with your own body weight, through fluid motion. It is relaxing, and my body just feels better afterwards.

So I’m kind of getting certified to be a PiYo instructor. I’m kind of super duper, amazingly excited that this is the next step in my fitness path. June 6th is the date of my certification. That is so close!!!

What does this mean for the Team Fearlessly Forward? Just that in addition to being a personal fitness coach, I will be starting to hold groups in my home or at the park for PiYo sessions. I imagine that it will be life changing to start working more locally with my coaching. That kind of accountability will be great for me as well.

If you are looking for an extra bit of accountability, drop your email in the comments.

This is me last summer. When I first started PiYo. Love how far I've come since here.

Love Your Lines, The Rest Will Follow

When you are running down the pavement, or lifting like your life depended on it what are the thoughts running through your mind? Is it burning off that Friday night pizza and beers? Is it imagining pinching the squishy parts of your skin with a nose  wrinkled with distaste? Do you shame yourself? Or do you motivate yourself?

Those are some questions to ask yourself. A fitness journey shouldn’t be something that eats away at your soul, taming you into self control through self loathing. It should be like the perky, mental cheerleader praising you for your accomplishments, high-fiving for your struggles, and a pat on the back for coming back again tomorrow.

The number one suggestion I have is to love your lines, love your struggles, love your setbacks. I’m guessing you’re thinking, “Love my lines, sure, because being body positive is awesome and all. But what is this love your struggles, and setbacks nonsense?”

image

Well since you asked. Love the things that have held you back before. For me it is an injury that happened over ten years ago that gives me pain to this day. But here I am. Bone pain, retraining nerves, low muscle tone, an occurrence of bicep tendonitis, and all. And I’m here. I choose to love this struggle. I choose to fight the good fight. And I choose do what I can with this life I’ve been given. I may never be the strongest, the fastest, the thinnest.

But guess what? I show up. I give my body the rest that it needs and then I’m back. You can choose any life you want, but you have to show up. I extend that challenge to my friends, readers, and complete strangers: just be your best self and see what happens. Use the power of motivation to propel you foward, using positive thinking as your guide.

Speak life into yourself. 👧👈💪✔

The rest will follow.

Building Our Little Homestead

So we have six week old chicks. Their names are Rhodehouse, Luna, Gizmo, and Buttercup. We got these little chicks with the ambition to start a little homestead. It is important to me to know that my food is ethically grown/raised. I don’t like preservatives, or fillers, or artificial anything, or growth hormones. I can have up to 6 chickens in my backyard, how cool is that? So we started this adventure six weeks ago and we kind of love our chicks… like they are hilarious and cute. They are pretty messy right now while they are contained to their little brooder box in our upstairs bathtub, but very soon their chicken run will be built and my bathroom will be free.

Here are the ladies!

Here are the ladies!

We’ve also built two raised bed gardens. For one of the raised bed gardens we’re going to transplant our three blueberry bushes, and then add strawberry plants to the holes in the cinder blocks. I’ve heard that they enjoy being warm and toasty to thrive. The hope is to have a fruitful harvest after the growing season. I think our three apple trees will be fruit bearing this year, and we hope to add a peach tree this year as well. Our other raised bed will be all of the veggies. We’re still deciding which veggies we want to do. This weekend we will finally figure it out.

This is our backyard. We have 5 fruit trees, 3 apple and 2 grape.

This has actually been easy to put together. If you are interested in some more information on how to get started building your own homestead, let me know and I’ll give some more information on how to start a homestead.

This is just another chapter in my journey through a fit life. It gives me pride being able to grow our produce, and to raise egg laying hens. It is just something that gives me a joy to do.

Big Changes for the Fearless Family

Big changes Alert

I have not been on the blog world recently. I feel bad about it, but when you are overwhelmed at work that can sometimes happen. Especially for people like me, who when get stressed they get quiet. That brings me to my big news. Drum roll please… I quit my corporate day job to fully pursue my dream job of being a fitness trainer and coach.

say, what

Yep, that is right. I decided that now is the time to fully pursue this. I have been reading this book “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero, and there was this great ‘aha moment’ when I realized that I needed to change my circumstances and chase the goals and dreams that I will achieve. I did not come to this conclusion quickly, I gave it a couple of months thought and decided that this is really what I want, and what kind of life I want to live.

What's next megMy main plan is to help people, and to do that I will be doing the following things:

  1. At the end of May, James and I will be taking a trip down to Oregon and I will be certified as an INSANITY trainer.
  2. I will be leading Fit Clubs at the Park and in my own home. Broken down, we are going to be working out in groups at the park or at my house.
  3. Teach people about how On Demand workouts work and how to use them to their advantage.
  4. Run clean eating groups, and paleo groups.
  5. One on one conversations, and coaching with whoever wants me as their coach.
  6. Running fitness challenge groups.
  7. Demonstrate how small changes in diet and exercise can affect your entire health.

I will also be getting our family out more actively this year, as well as starting to grow our own fruits and veggies and raise chickens for egg laying. It is a lot, I know. But when you get that scary/excited feeling that makes you want smile; you just have to run with your arms outstretched and embrace the positive change.

My Why

Today I want to touch a bit on self image. This is a subject I hold close to me. I find true joy in building others up. Why? Because I overcame a strong sense of negative self esteem,  and I came out the other side as a positive thinking person. I spent my teenage years being called a fat b!+*#, and numerous other derogatory terms by someone who should have been supportive and loving.

I was an athletic built girl who let herself become convinced that I was just a lazy fat@$$. So I let myself become that person, because I’m just a fat@$$. <—– That was trap I fell into, and I was unable to lose the weight until I started to love on myself.

image

It wasn’t until I decided I was worthy of the effort. It wasn’t until I decided my health is important, and then I decided that I wanted to be strong. Strong for myself, and strong for others.

So if you ever need someone to build you into a positive force to be reckoned with, I’m your girl.🙂

Meal Prep Madness/Sunday Funday

image

I spent $105 shopping, $25+ of savings from not buying lunches.

This week I officially start 40 hours at my job {YAY} and one thing I know for sure… Just because like will be at work from 8:30am-6:15pm 5 days a week, doesn’t mean I’m going to be sacrificing my meal plan,  and goals for something quick, easy, and crappy for me.  Hence, today I spent prepping lunches, and freezer to crockpot bags.

It took a little bit of pinterest recipe organization and searching,  but I broke it down by having 2 crockpots going simultaneously for dinner tonight, and lunches for the work week.

Clean Eating Orange Chicken for lunches

Once that was prepped I started labeling my bags. Each had the instructions for what to do on the day of cooking.

image

8 bags total, 4 recipes with each of them doubled.

Then I went about the task of assembling each recipe. This was the most complicated and lengthy part of the whole experience. Thank goodness for my food processor, because I did a total of 10 pounds of sliced carrots alone.

image

So thankful once the last bag was completed.

All in all it took longer than I thought originally, but for that I have a solution. I will be making two less time consuming recipes next week, and two similar to the ones I did today. When I think about the amount of money I’ll be saving, this is so worth it. Not to mention the benefit to my family’s health.

These bad boys are being delivered this week. Getting organized for next week's prep.

All of the recipes I made are clean, and are family friendly.

I made:
》2 Bags Garden Veggie Soup w/ground Turkey
》2 Bags Chuck Roast w/Carrots
》2 Bags Chicken Fajitas
》2 Bags Mexican Veggie Soup
》Honey Garlic Chicken
》Orange Chicken

2 weeks of Insanity

I’ve been trying out this whole Insanity Max:30 workout for two weeks. I officially start the meal plan on the fifth of January. I’ve long since given up on measuring my progress by the number on the scale. Because really it comes down to the way your clothes fit, and after the first week my tightest jeans are loose. After the second week I can tell I’ve lost in my mid section.

image

Right now I’m just getting a feel for the workouts. I’ve only missed two workouts so far. And that was only because I slipped on the stairs yesterday landed hard on the step with my booty and am still really sore. I’m taking tonight to rest and then getting back to it tomorrow. We have to let ourselves heal, or risk hurting ourselves more.

Setbacks happen; I’ve noticed they often occur near the beginning of something like this. We all have the choice to get back on that horse after we fall off. It won’t be easy, but I’ll get back in gear this weekend.

Transformation Tuesday: The Mind Transformation

This is just a quick post today. A transformation post,  just to show the level of change in my overall attitude over the last couple of years.

There is something to be said about deciding to change your life for positive forever. It takes a solid commitment… don’t get me wrong there will be ups and downs. Mountains, valleys, and plateaus. But overall, if you choose to you will succeed.
